Blue Shield of California - Medicare Supplemental
Blue Shield of California offers a number of supplemental plans to the existing Medicare Parts A and B. These plans meet the governmental guidelines for Medicare Supplemental Healthcare. You may apply for the supplemental plans that are offered by Blue Shield of California, generally after you have enrolled in Medicare Supplemental Healthcare Parts A and B. There are special health circumstances that may let you enroll earlier, please refer to the Governmental Guide, 2006 Choosing a Medigap Policy
Be aware that there are large gaps in coverage or paid expenses. You should review the 2006 Choosing a Medigap Policy to make a decision about the Medicare Supplemental Healthcare plan that will meet your needs. Please pay special attention to what is covered by Medicare Portions A and B.
Also be aware that you should take the part “D” which is the Drug portion of Medigap coverage. If you do not take Part “D” when you are illegible, you are penalized 1% per month on the premium. That can amount up to a substantial penalty. It is important coverage and should benefit most people on Medicare. Once you have decided on a plan, please fill out the Application for
Blue Shield of California Medicare Supplement Plans. Take your time and make sure to answer all the questions. Please print any answers that require explanation. This will help the underwriter process your application more quickly. The first month’s premium must be included with the application.
Transfer to a Medicare Supplement Plan
If you are replacing an existing plan, you must fill out the Application for Blue Shield of California in order to transfer to a Medicare Supplement Plan.
