Choosing a plan and physician:

When choosing a plan you should review all the coverage options. Some decisions need to be made prior to picking a plan, for example, you must decide how many family members will be covered.

Each plan has a group of approved physicians.  It is important to check to see if your doctor is approved on the plan you are choosing.  This can be determined by going to either the Blue Shield of California or Blue Cross of California web sites and searching for your doctor’s name.

Premium Tolerance:

The best way to decide if you want an HMO, POS or modified plan is to go to the rate pages for your territory and review the rates for your area.  There are also tiers of rates based on the health of the individual or individuals on the plan to be considered.  Your comparison of the rates and coverage between the HMO and POS plans should allow you to decide which plan best suits your needs and your budget.  Please do not hesitate to give us a call if we can assist you in making a decision.

Coverage:

Simply go to either Blue Shield of California or Blue Cross of California websites and fill out an application.  You may find it helpful to have us review the application and any additional supporting documentation to make sure no items are overlooked, thereby giving you the best chance of being approved at the preferred or best rate for which you qualify.
Both of Blue Cross and Blue Shield have excellent coverage with Point of Service Plans (“POS”), Health Maintenance Organization (“HMO”) Plans, and modified plans to meet most every client’s needs.

If you are under 30 and you are able to pay a high deductible, you can reduce your premium by taking a high deductible plan. Both companies also offer great rates for children. Some clients do not carry children on their group plan, preferring to get them an individual plan. This remedies health insurance problems associate with changing jobs, ensuring that there is no lapse in coverage for your children. This is particularly relevant to small group policies or those who are self-employed.
